Safe at Home: Family Firearm Safety for Parents and Caregivers

May 30 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

This class was developed with support from the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment’s Office of Gun Violence Prevention (CDPHE OGVP) as part of a grant focused on reducing unauthorized child access to firearms through education, safe storage awareness, and family conversations.

This is not an anti-gun class. In fact, one of the reasons this project matters so much is because it is being built with members of the firearm community.

We are intentionally creating a welcoming environment for firearm owners, parents, grandparents, caregivers, educators, and community members who want practical, nonjudgmental education around:

  • Child curiosity and unauthorized access
  • Age-appropriate safety conversations
  • Safe firearm storage practices
  • Reducing accidents and preventable tragedies
  • Community-based prevention strategies

Even if someone does not currently have children in the home, we would still strongly encourage attendance. As we pilot and refine this new curriculum, community feedback is incredibly valuable and will help shape future programming across Colorado.

Register HereWe also believe it is important for organizations like CDPHE OGVP to continue engaging and collaborating with responsible firearm owners and firearm instructors. Strong participation helps demonstrate that education and partnership inside the firearms community are both possible and effective.

Please register for the class even if you are unsure whether you can attend.  If you attend, try to stay the entire time, but we understand if your schedule only allows for partial attendance.

About the Instructor

The class will be taught by me, Amanda Hardin.

I am the Executive Director of the Mind & Safety Institute™, a Registered Nurse, and a certified firearms instructor through both the NRA and USCCA. I entered the firearms industry in 2011 after appearing on History Channel’s show, Top Shot, and for more than a decade, I have worked in firearm safety education, women’s safety training, and community outreach.

My work focuses on bridging the gap between public health, mental health conversations, and the firearm-owning community through respectful, practical education, while remaining firmly supportive of responsible Second Amendment rights and firearm ownership.

If you would be willing to share this flyer and registration link with your network, I would greatly appreciate it. Community partnerships and word of mouth are what make programs like this successful.

The Mind & Safety Institute™ retains all registration information and will only share registration numbers, class attendance numbers and survey feedback with CDPHE OGVP.  Your personal information will remain with The Mind & Safety Institute™.

Thank you for your support and for helping us create safer homes and stronger conversations in Colorado.
